Onslaught.
Some of my favorite crabapple pictures this year--and you know there's a batch every year--are the ones that came out a little off-center and strange. Not unlike the year itself.
And on this day.
Tonight I am so exhausted that it's all I can do to keep myself awake long enough to get this picture posted.
And a second day of silence...
I don't know whether I could put into words how quickly things are moving here these days. Telling you that I rarely have a space in my schedule for lunch--not for sitting down at lunch, but even for going to the store or the coffeeshop to buy something to eat at my desk, much less to make something to take with me to the officehouse in the first place--or that on Thursday I moved from getting my driver's license renewed to grading essays with nary a pause, then delivered an hour-long lecture-and-discussion session for high school students visiting campus, then did my office hours for two and a half hours, then attended a three-hour administrative search meeting, then left town for a concert--that sort of summary might encapsulate it for you. But I don't know whether that description catches at the edge of, say, not having had even five minutes for getting a cup of coffee between office hours and the search meeting. Or the utter giddiness I felt when my excellent friend drove us off the hill for an event for which we'd acquired tickets in March, knowing that if we paused for even a moments thought before we bought them, we'd have talked ourselves out of it.
And for the most part, I feel as though I'm moving through my days with a relatively good amount of cheer, though also with an extra edge of sharpness and speed that I'm looking forward to softening down a bit more when that becomes possible again.
Today's silence...
...was brought to you by Neko Case's stop in Columbus, as well as the obvious imperative of pulling off a surprise early arrival of my yoga-bearing, ass-kicking friend at said concert, an arrival orchestrated to delight my excellent friend, who taught us both a great deal of what we know.
