Bird beyond the road.

When the pheasant ran in front of our car this afternoon, I barely had enough time to get the camera out and catch an image of it--much less a good image of it. (In fact, it turned out that everything was still set up for last night's moon shots.) But a dodgy picture of a dodging pheasant is better than none at all.

One way I came to be here.

Heading away from the prairie the other evening, I stopped to get a better look at the moss that's coming back to line our local bicycle path. While I was crouching to get this image, and even more fully once I actually saw the image, I remembered perhaps the first moment when it occurred to me to use my camera to make a picture like this one.

In the middle of the afternoon, by which point I had intended to have graded a probably unreasonable number of papers but instead had graded none, I decided that it was too sunny and warm to stay inside at a desk, especially given that there was a big dog who would relish a ride in the car and a walk on a prairie and up a hill. And so we went.

It was the right choice.
